What is HGH, and What Kind of Products Can I Buy?
There are a variety of HGH products that can be bought today, claiming to carry out most if not all of the functions that the naturally occurring hormone does in our bodies when we are young.
What is HGH?
HGH stands for human growth hormone and it is produced by a gland in our brains. It carries out a variety of vital functions as we are developing, the main one to note being to help us grow. It also encourages cell regeneration, tissue repair and wards of infection and diseases. In fact, pretty much everything that takes place in our bodies when we are growing and developing can be attributed in some way to the growth hormone being produced in our brains.
As we get older, the once prolific production of the hormone by the gland goes into decline, and by our mid-eighties there is virtually none being produced any more. It is believed by some that if this were not the case, or if we could somehow encourage more production of the HGH in our bodies then we would continue to receive benefits as we do when we are younger. In fact people believe that it is the reduction of the hormone in our bodies that causes us to age.
That is the premise under which a whole variety of HGH products have been brought to market. There are generally speaking two different types of HGH supplement. The first is simply an HGH product that is the hormone in a bottle. In other words you simply up the amount in your body by taking in extra. The second type of product is the one that is meant to be more natural as it simply encourages the body to produce more of the hormone. Either type of HGH product can be administered in a number of ways. There are pills available, capsule, tablets, sprays and injections.
HGH Pills
These are said to be more effective that sprays because they can be easily ingested and absorbed into the blood stream and dispersed around the body. They are a relatively cheap option also and easy to swallow.
HGH Sprays
Many people do not believe that these are an effective way to administer a supplement. Any type of supplement that is, not just HGH. The reason is that it is impossible for the substance to go through the mouth lining to be absorbed by the blood. Put simply the spray cannot get into the body through either oral or nasal sprays.
HGH injections
Said to be the ultimate in HGH products, an injection straight into the body carries with it also quite a hefty price tag however. You are only able to access these injections at private clinics and a long course must be followed before any effects are shown. There is one instance when physicians will prescribe a course of HGH injections, and this is when a person has a genuine HGH deficiency and it is causing health problems. In this particular and rare instance, and doctor will prescribe injections only, certainly never a pill or spray.
It was in the early 90’s that the idea of HGH supplements first became apparent after a study was published in an American journal of medicine with findings that a group of men who had been given injections regularly over a period of 6 months had seen an increase of lean body mass (ie muscle) and a decrease in fatty tissue. At this point, body builders and anti-aging experts jumped on the HGH product bandwagon which led us to the explosion of HGH products we see on the market today.
Some doctors and scientists however were not so easily convinced and supplied alternative suggestions to these findings, such as for example the HGH supplements led to the muscles holding more water, which would explain the increase in lean body mass. They also said the study was not carried out for long enough in order to properly get a picture of possible side effects.
There have been over the years some reports of side effects such as aching joints, heart and kidney problems and even some reports of people developing psychiatric disorders. There are many HGH products available to buy today, and despite no firm scientific proof that the claims are grounded on medical fact, many people are still keen to test them out.
